I have never cooked with whole dried chiles. Is this too advanced?

No. The book starts with buying cues for ancho and New Mexico red chiles, then walks through stemming, seeding, gentle toasting, soaking, pureeing, straining, and frying the paste. Each stage includes timing and visual cues.

Does this expect me to grab a hot cast-iron pot with my bare hand?

No. The chuck-box and Dutch-oven material explains how to adapt the cooking method to those vessels; it does not ask you to perform for the camera or ignore ordinary hot-pot safety.

Does the recipe include beans, macaroni, or a long list of secret ingredients?

The central recipe is a Texas bowl of red built from chuck, whole dried chiles, aromatics, supporting spices, and time. Beans are covered separately in “Beans Beside the Bowl,” and coffee, chocolate, beer, and similar additions are examined in their own chapter rather than treated as required tricks.

Will this work somewhere besides a ranch cookhouse?

Yes. The book gives separate directions for a home stovetop, oven, slow cooker, Dutch oven, chuck box, and cookhouse range, along with a six-serving home pot and scaling tables through thirty-six servings.

Is a paper book coming in the mail?
